Dual Shaft BO Motor – 150RPM (Yellow Gearbox)
The “Battery Operated” (BO) Motor is the heartbeat of beginner robotics. This is the 150RPM variant, which we consider the “Goldilocks” speed—it is faster than the slow 60RPM high-torque motors but stronger than the frantic 300RPM racing motors. It features a plastic gearbox and a Dual Shaft design, allowing you to mount a wheel on one side and a speed encoder on the other.
Why choose the 150RPM version?
- Perfect Balance: At 150 Rotations Per Minute (RPM), your robot moves at a controllable walking pace. This is ideal for Line Follower Robots where you need speed but also need enough time for sensors to react.
- Dual Shaft Utility: The shaft sticks out of both sides of the motor. Use one side to drive your wheel and the other side to attach a slotted disc for measuring speed or distance.
- Easy Mounting: The yellow housing has standard mounting holes that fit almost all acrylic 2WD and 4WD chassis kits available on the market.
Common Applications

Common Questions
How do I connect wires to this?
The motor has two small metal tabs near the back. You need to solder wires to these. Pro Tip: Do not hold the soldering iron on the tab for too long, or the plastic casing will melt and ruin the motor!
Does it come with wheels?
No, this is the motor only. You will need standard “BO Wheels” (Yellow wheels with black tires) which push-fit directly onto the shaft.
Can I connect this directly to Arduino?
**Never!** An Arduino pin can only provide 40mA. This motor can draw up to 500mA when stalled, which will burn your Arduino. You MUST use a motor driver like the L293D or L298N.
Why are plastic gears used?
Plastic gears make the motor lightweight and very affordable. They are perfect for learning and light robots (under 500g). For heavy-duty off-road robots, check our “Metal Gear Motor” section.
