DRV8833 Dual H-Bridge Motor Driver Module

Stop burning energy with old L298N drivers! The DRV8833 is a modern, efficient dual H-Bridge driver capable of driving two DC motors or one stepper motor. Built on MOSFET technology, it runs cool and maximizes battery life, making it the perfect choice for small to medium-sized robotics projects powered by Li-Ion or LiPo batteries.

Why choose the DRV8833?

  • High Efficiency: Unlike the L298N (which drops ~2V as heat), the DRV8833 uses MOSFETs with very low resistance. This means more voltage gets to your motors, and your batteries last longer.
  • Built-in Protection: Features internal protection against over-current, short circuits, under-voltage lockout, and over-temperature. It protects itself so you don’t have to.
  • Low Voltage Operation: Works all the way down to 2.7V, making it ideal for robots running on a single 3.7V Lithium cell or even two AA batteries.

Common Applications

  • Mini Sumo Robots (Pololu style)
  • Line Follower Robots (N20 Motors)
  • Bipolar Stepper Motor Control (NEMA 17 small loads)
  • Smart Locks and Solenoid control

The Bench Robotics Guarantee

Common Questions

Why are my motors not moving?

Check the EEP (Sleep) pin! This pin puts the driver to sleep to save power. You must connect the EEP pin to HIGH (3.3V or 5V) to wake up the driver. If you leave it floating, the motors won’t run.

Is this better than the L298N?

Absolutely. The L298N is old technology that gets very hot and wastes battery. The DRV8833 is smaller, runs cooler, and is much more efficient for modern robots using N20 or yellow BO motors.

Can I drive 4 motors with this?

This is a 2-channel driver, so you can control 2 motors independently (speed and direction). However, if you are building a 4WD car, you can wire the two left motors together into one channel, and the two right motors into the other.

Does it need a heatsink?

For standard N20 or BO motors running under 1.5A, no heatsink is needed because the internal resistance is so low. If you are pushing it to the 2A limit continuously, active cooling is recommended.
